Thanks to the generosity of the Bank of Hawai'i and the Monty Richards Hawai'i Island Community Award, KPO and five other organizations have received a $6,000 dollar grant for a fledgling Music in the Schools program for ten underserved schools across the entire Big Island of Hawai'i (click on picture below for link to WHT article).

Each of the ten school visits will be done with the intention of providing children (primarily in the elementary school level), with exposure to high quality classical music in a fully rounded context, and will include the following.

  • A performance by a small chamber group made up of members of the Kamuela Philharmonic Orchestra
  • Instrument "Petting Zoos", allowing children to hold and play various instruments with introductory instruction
  • Detailed information on music study opportunities in the near community
  • Q & A opportunities about music, music education, and the life of a professional musician
